Baidu’s Apollo Go and Pony.ai’s PonyPilot+ have been granted the first-ever permits to provide fully driverless ride-hailing service in part of China’s capital Beijing on Friday.
The two companies will each have ten robotaxis allocated in a 60-square-kilometer area of Yizhuang in suburban Beijing.
Pony.ai said its fleet of robotaxis has been testing in Yizhuang for three months. The robotaxis faced sophisticated traffic and weather conditions but didn’t have a single accident. Baidu said its robotaxis receive more than 20 orders a day in Yizhuang.
